This is not an endorsement. This is a promise.
A joint statement from board candidates is unusual, however, we realized we all want to right the course of the club, and to help ease the tensions that have been rising around this election. We are a group of long-time, first-year, and new board members uniting around shared goals: more rides, more participation, more riders who feel safe and enthusiastic about NYCC.
We represent a wide range of club experiences: A/B/C/D riders, Prospect and Central Parks, SIG and STS leaders, the whole swathe.
Right now, some of the most basic questions about NYCC don't have clear answers. How is membership growing, and who's joining? Who's leaving, and when? How many SIG graduates are still riding with us a year later? Which rides are thriving, and which are fading? And how are our costs growing relative to membership?
The data to answer these questions already exists in our sign-ups, ride listings and accounts.
What’s needed is willingness to look at it properly, draw conclusions and share them openly.
This does not have to be expensive or complicated. The tools are already out there, freely available, and some of the groundwork has already been laid. We all have concrete, innovative ways to build upon the past successes of NYCC and fix what went wrong.
We also have a proven track record of each working together on various projects over the past years. While this is seen by some as an opposition, we want to show a united front; we have disagreed in the past however, we are all mature enough to set these aside to act in the best interest of the NYCC membership. Even if we do not all win our elections, we promise to positively work with those that do.
We are passionate about creating the “welcoming, supportive community” referenced in the NYCC mission statement.
If that sounds like the NYCC you want, please vote for us.
Around 2,400 members didn't vote last year. This election could be decided by a fraction of that number. Your vote genuinely matters.
